LIfe In The Middle

Building OUR TOWN, A Safe Haven In A Corrupt World

Thanksgiving has faded. Christmas has come and gone. The weather has changed too. There were some stray colorful leaves out there in the wet Northwest where I live. I got some good photos of them, as well as the snow we had for several days in December. It is now January and I’m taking my heavier Chrysler with snow tires back and forth to work for safety.

The election outcomes are what they are. Problems with the economy loom ahead of us, and job unemployment issues continue to look us squarely in the face. Taxes need to be raised to pay for governmental services people want, yet everyone seems to want tax cuts. There are concerns about border issues and illegal immigration, and whether the floods of people pouring in from other lands will be decreased. There is the continued loss of jobs. Homes are foreclosing. Yet we deny responsibility for the situations we have found ourselves in.

If you have children who are just starting out in life, you pray that their hard efforts in school, and sometimes tens of thousands of dollars of school debt will provide them with more that a minimum wage job, or leave them wondering what the future holds for them. Where will the help come to those who are to become the new middle class, and future leaders? Their optimism for “New Changes” will quickly turn into the cold realities of how governments really work. They, with the rest of us average Joe Blow’s, down here in the ditches of life, hoping for change will find themselves discouraged, disenfranchised, and angry. Tired of the rhetoric, tired of finger pointing at the “Bushies”, the reality is that we are a part of the problem. We live in a global community and are part of a WORLD economy. We do not have enough resources to be the world’s caretaker, military, or the nation that is responsible for the clean up of environmental disasters in other countries.

We are a nation under siege not only from without, but from within as well. Unfortunately, if we do not stop the hemorrhaging, we will find that America is nothing more than an empty shell of what it once was. At that time, will it matter whether the burned out Hippies think that it took forty years, but they conquered the government? Will it matter whether the lobbyists want to encourage Congress to institute another entitlement program? The answer is, NO. It won’t matter because whether they like it or not, there isn’t an endless pot of gold to finance everything. Our government must better utilize its resources, but which programs are going to take second place, or vote to be eliminated?.How long does it take before we get the message that there isn’t any money for another handout? We can’t even repair our roads, maintain parks, or support all our schools.

Usually I am a fairly upbeat, and positive individual. But there are times when you look at the state of the nation, and think that if some wealthy Bill Gates would give me about fifty million dollars, I would buy up land, build a town and invite all who wanted a place where the family is important, where homes, churches, and theaters are present, to come to OUR TOWN. Come to OUR TOWN, where pedophiles, or rapists, or drug addicts, or domestic violence problems would not be tolerated.

I am not talking about a commune built by followers of a cult or odd group. It would be OUR TOWN. No one would be forced to stay, if you wanted a more liberal, town, then leave. Everyone does not want the same thing, but come on, how many of you wouldn’t want to raise your family some place away from the lure of pornography, strip clubs, bars, and drug traffickers?

I am simply talking about a safe haven, where you can become the best that you can be, and then, from a place of strength, set a standard for others. Maybe this would be the way to reclaim our freedom and return to those principles that have made us stronger, more resilient, and greater than so many other nations.

There must be some wealthy philanthropist who would be willing to build up a truly good community where the citizens live in peace and harmony. Any takers out there for OUR TOWN?

Just something to think about folks. Until later... Colleen
