Embracing Change
The New Year is here and many of us make a point of setting goals to work on during the new year. If you are like me, then goals that were not achieved the previous year are often carried over to the next. 2009 was a year of huge change for me so when I began thinking about what I had accomplished during the year and what I hoped to accomplish during the upcoming year, I made a shocking discovery. Somewhere along the way I changed. My old goals no longer seemed to apply, and I found myself yearning for things I had never even thought about before.
This inner shift in needs and wants came as a shock because it had happened while I was not looking. Never the less, I found I could not ignore the fact that I was no longer the same person I was before. Granted, last year was filled with more then the usual amount of change a person is faced with. The biggest change was our adoption of three school age children. Another big change was the more active role I took in our family business. Both made me change how I viewed myself, and sent me down different life roads.
I took several big leaps last year and have emerged stronger because of them. But what are people suppose to do after they have had major changes in their life? There is a wealth of advise about taking control of your life and many ways to set goals to find new direction in your life. Where is the guidance for what to do after you have reached your goals and have become the new and improved person you wanted to be?
The answer is shockingly simple. Embrace the change and set your sites on new horizons. You’ll find new goals, new dreams and desires. You’ll learn and grow and chase something new.
I'm more then I was before and this coming year I will continue to change and grow. I will become more then I thought I would be.
I encourage each of you to look at how you have changed and who you are today before deciding what resolutions you will set for the new year. Don't settle for the same goals and never follow through. Discover what you really want and then go get it.
Happy New Year and best wishes.
